patchwork bag

The Patchwork Bag was developed as an exercise in circular design. The duffel bag was designed to be efficient in a circular economy with its up-cycled materials, longevity of materials, and repairability.

The bag intercepts textile waste in an effort to reduce the environmental impacts of both the disposal and production of textiles.

How it works

The Patchwork Bag uses two main types of textiles, heavy and light duty. The heavy duty textiles that make up the outer body are primarily sourced from upholstery, pants, and outerwear. The light duty textiles used for the inner lining are made sourced from bed sheets, table cloths and curtains.

The heavy and light duty textiles are layered and attached with a sashiko inspired quilt pattern to reinforce the body, providing longevity. The contrast stitching acts as a unifying pattern and ensures any visible repairs add to the aesthetics of the bag.

Cotton webbing is used for the strap and to further reinforce the bag. As one of the new materials used in the construction of the bag cotton reduces the environmental impact as a renewable resource that can be recycled.

The hardware used for the bag is metal to ensure their durability and for its ease of recycling.
